For New Years, we went to my Auntie Em's and Uncle Bob's up in Susanville, CA. Olivia was so excited and wanted to go on a snow walk(a long walk in the snow), sledding and ride their pony. We did everything except the pony ride because it rained the last day (on our snow walk). We did some fun sledding and played tons of games with my cousin's. There was lots of eating, movie watching and catching up. But, I have no pictures to prove it. I forgot my camera.
At our house I like to make new and interesting foods. Usually they are a success, but every once in a while a I have a complete and utter failure. Like the pumpkin and chard lasagna I made in October. I thought, WOW, that looks good and healthy. I had fresh chard in my garden, a can of pumpkin, cream, cheese and noodles. Needless to say it was savorless and bitter and runny. YUCK! But, back to my story, so sometimes Adam and I have to bribe Olivia to try new things. She is actually a really good eater. She always eats her vegetables and dinner, but when something looks weird she's very hesitant to try it so Adam and I have resorted to money tactics to at least get her to try stuff and it usually works. Our most recent pictures here is the seafood paella I made. Note the baby octopus on her spoon.
Yes, she is actually chewing.
Oh my gosh! Look what it did to her face.
I think she got four quarters for the gumball machine at the gym for that.
Ok, I hope no one thinks this is inappropriate to blog but does anyone else's kids do this. This kid went to bed in long sleeve jammies and had covers on her. This is what I found before I went to bed.
SKI TRIP
Ok. We had so much fun! But I was so tired at the end of the day. California has gotten some awesome snow, so we took Olivia skiing on a Friday she didn't have school. The mountains had just had snow. We went up to Sugar Bowl, the closet resort. Adam and I got our ski passes at REI at discount and signed Olivia up for a morning lesson. We got there super early, so we got her rentals and pass and I decided to ski too (I've been snowboarding for the last 14 years). I got free rentals with my ticket (score!). Since we were so early we decided to go up the mountain once with her. I failed to recognize that way off to the left of the lodge was a kiddie mountain and lift, so we went up the big one. When we got off the lift I put her between my skies and just held on to her. Of course she couldn't turn to help me so I literally had to lift her up every time I would turn to keep from skiing on her skis. It was way too steep to just snowplow down. My thighs were burning, I had sweat dripping down my back. I was sure we were going to die on the way down. At one point we actually fell. No one was injured, but Olivia was mad. She just sat down on the back of her skis, with them pointed downhill and took off without me. She went down so fast and then stopped when it leveled off. She thought it was so funny and said "Mom, that's how you are supposed to do it and I can do it!" I didn't think it was funny at the time, I thought she would get clipped by some punk snowboarder or hit a tree. We spent the time til her lesson in the lodge, trying to dry off the sweat. We dropped her off at her lesson and then Adam and I hit the slopes. I ws surprised that I could actually ski pretty good still. I'm very cautious. My last trip I fell hard and didn't want to repeat it. It was fun, the snow rocked and the sun started to come out. We picked up Olivia, ate some lunch and went out to the kiddie area. They have this thing called the magic carpet, a big rubber conveyed belt that takes kids up the hill. It's easy on/off. So we spent several hours on that. She still didn't have the snowplow down and needed help getting up and there were tears and mom yelling turn and stop and go. It was a little frustrating. There was a litte girl from her class her age skiing with us who was better than Olivia and then suddenly Olivia just got it and started following the girl on her own. Eventually we got up to the kiddie lift and she started going through hoops and swerving trees. It was so cute and fun and she did not want to leave but by 3:30 I was pooped and we jetted before the mass exodus. I would say it was a success and a good workout.
One last thing, can anyone help me read this test, because it is not clear enough.

Jess, you crack me up! We had a blast with you guys at New Years, I hope it's not too long before we play again. and Congratulations on that last little note ;) !! I'm sooo excited for you!!
Congrats on the pregnancy, very exciting.
Corbin gets completely naked at bedtime quite often too. The only difference is that he doesn't leave anything on! I thought it was weird and just a boy thing...guess not. I'm glad he's not so weird after all.
CONGRATS!!! I am so excited for you. When are you due?
Loved the skiing pictures and stories.
Olivia is adorable.
Congratulations. We are so happy for the three of you.
Yay!!!! I am so excited for you guys! I wish I could have enjoyed the paella with you (I served in Spain so I crave paella often). I can't believe how good of a skier Olivia appears to be.
Oh my goodness Jess! I can't believe you threw that picture on at the end of your ski post!
so nonchalant-

p.s. gross about the baby octopus. That's rough mom. and worth a whole lot more than 4 quarters! ick. (giggle)
I had to show Eric your octopus pic and he said,
We need to save that and show our kids the next time they complain at the table..."It could be a whole lot worse kids! So quit Complaining!!"
I can't believe Olivia ate it.
