Since we've moved in the house our backyard has been a dirt plod but we are on our way to making it useable. So far we've got the grass in, trampoline area barked, the garden put in (minus the dirt-still need that), and trees(2-cherries, bartlett pear, plum, meyer lemon, mandarin and a fruitless pear for shade). Our porch and cover was done last summer. We have plans for raspberries along our back wall and blueberries too but we have to prep our soil and that may take til next winter. The fire pit needs more gravel and Adam is going to put up a bigger shed for the lawn mower and tools. We are probably going to put in a few containers to plant flowers around the yard and perhaps even plant some vines to crawl up the other section of stone wall to help make it a little greener too. This spring we are going to put in a play structure and in the area to eventually become a pool (years from now when we can pay cash for it) we are going to garden it too. Since the weather has been so great we are already enjoying it. Olivia likes to hop the back fence where it meets the stone wall and play in the field just behind our house. She also just likes to sit on the stone column. It's cute. Here are a few pictures.
There is a window in the family room that looks out to the tramp so I can see the kids. It stays cooler on this side of the house because it gets more shade.
Our garden plots-looking forward to experimenting. Over the winter, before the drainage in our back yard was sunk, it flooded every time it rained. The gravel is nice so we can contain the dirt, but not have to water or care for it like grass.
Along the stone wall the raspberries will go and the triangle by the back square is where the blueberries will go.
Right now the porch is being use to store the lawn mower and other garden tools.
The back square in where the fire pit will go, and then a pear tree to the right of it.
One day there will be a pool here but for now I'll garden it and we will put a play structure in one corner and a shed in the farthest corner.
The Fire Pit. We'll put in some good benches and a wood box too. Olivia sits up on the stone column.

Looking good! You will love having all of that fruit in a couple years. I am determined in the next house we own to plant some fruit trees, even if we don't stay long enough to get the fruit. I love the garden boxes, they just look so neat and it is exciting to think of all the yummy things that will be in there soon!
Your backyard is huge and awesome. I'm jealous.
How big IS your backyard?
It looks enormous. like... acres!
