Hmmm, where to start?

How about a garden post.  So our garden has been fairly fruitful and it's been kind of fun to harvest and eat the fresh food.  These potatoes were great.  Only a couple of zucchini plants have actually produced and we get a couple of nice ones every other week.  The rest of my squash didn't do well.  My cantaloupe and watermelon vines are getting big but no fruit has appeared.  None of my pumpkins grew at all.  I guess the soil is bad in that part of the garden.

Carrots galore!  We haven't even harvested all of them yet.

Our sunflowers were so fun to watch grow.  Some of them grew over eight feet tall and the bees just swarmed them.  Now they are all bent over, browning, their heads heavy with seeds.

I grew yellow pears, sun golds, Roma, beefsteak tomatoes that have done fabulous, I'm still drowning in them.  However I grew a brandy wine that grew taller than me but only produced two tomatoes that started to rot on the vine and an heirloom tomatoes that all grew big and full of blossoms but no tomatoes have grown on it.  I also had a tomatillo plant that has started to produce, but not enough to make salsa verde.
I did get few eggplant, that Benji did not pick, and they were beautiful.  I thinly sliced them on a pizza-YUM.
I was so excited about our corn and then at the beginning of August it stopped growing tall and started to turn brown.  The cobs didn't grow any bigger so I ripped a couple off and this is what they look like.  I think this also was a soil problem.  We planted them in a section of yard that is clay soil and didn't add enough compost to it.

We also have had success with our green onion, leeks(still growing), basil, thyme, oregano, chard and beans. Our onions didn't do well and were only walnut size when I had to harvest them.  I did grow two different beets, but I hate beets, though I was determined to like them.  It has been fun to experiment and one of the great things about California is I can grow a winter garden too!
